Design is not complete when the floor plan is
finished! Too many people make the mistake of
rushing plans for permit after Schematic Design. It is
very important to have a clear understanding of how
all the parts and pieces are working together
three-dimensionally. During the Design Development
phase we begin to specify as much as possible so that
the final design can be realized. You are responsible
for selecting windows, exterior and interior doors,
cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, light fixtures, appliances,
etc. All of these elements may alter the configuration
of room layouts and window locations and sizes. With
this in mind, it is important to be as specific as
possible before drawings are submitted for a building
permit. Three-dimensional drawings can be
developed during this phase to clearly understand the
spatial aspects of the proposed design.
